The Bug Zapper is Safe as only the middle grid is the active one and it is protected by 2 grids from the outside. So there are 3 grids but only the middle one would zap.

maybe the reviewer who doesn't get the "pop" from the small bugs needs fresher batteries, becasue i get a nice little "snap" from almost every mosquito i kill (and i tell ya...it does my heart good to hear that sound) You WILL want more than one of these...i have 2 and i'm ordering at least 2 more now when i first got them i thought...oh..cute...a novelty it was christmas and not alot of bugs around to test it on (luckily i have a son and a husband who proved to be adequate in the testing of the strength of the electric shock) (relax...the boy is 25 and was armed as well...i just run faster around the furniture) finally summer came and to my joy these not only kill the annoying large house fly with ease (and a seriously loud "POP") and no icky splatter you have to wipe off the wall...but they also do wonders catching mosquitos on the fly with that lovely little "snap" holding the buttons down to complete the circuit is a bit of a bother..but you get used to it and it does help to avoid shocking yourself (a rather unpleasant feeling so i'm told by my husband and son) highly recomended
