The Meco heating element was purchased as a replacement for the one originally provided in my Brinkmann electric smoker. When the outside temperature was 50 degrees, the Brinkmann element would not reach the required 220 degrees that it was pre-set at the factory to reach, for barbecue cooking. I had hoped that, since the Meco element had an adjustable heat setting that could be set considerably higher than 220 degrees, that I could reach the desired temp. of 220 to 230 degrees, even though the outside temp. was approx. 50 degrees. Not so. Identical performance as with the Brinkmann element, in a "cool weather" application. Neither product would reach over 180 degrees. Too low for barbecue. Apparently, electric smokers are for "fair weather" barbecuing only. I'll convert my smoker to propane.
