Product Review
Whoever guessed there would be such a thing? The Remington pole saw certainly delivers powerful capabilities, telescoping anywhere from 6 feet, 6 inches to 9 feet, 8 inches to rid your grounds of dead tree limbs without a ladder in sight. As a saw it is comparable to any conventional chain saw: the 8 amp motor plugs a great deal of power into the cut, which is clean and efficient with the chrome chain cutters and narrow kerf bar support. For those who might be nervous about towing such power on the end of a pole, plenty of safety features make it a trusty companion--such as the adjustable chain screw, which allows you to secure a tight chain before you get started, and a chain catcher that stands at the ready should the chain derail in midair. Kickback (which could be quite problematic from the other end of a 9 foot lever) is prevented by a low-kickback chain and narrow nose-bar tip. Best of all is its light weight: the saw is a mere 7 pounds (although even that can seem heavy after an extensive project). The unit operates on a 120-volt household current and comes with a one-year limited warranty.

I have 30-40 trees (most under 20') and was tired of lugging and setting up a ladder to prune them. I saw on a cable program a gas powered chainsaw on a pole and was intrigued but the cost of them ($300+) was prohibited. I then saw on the web the mention of an electric version and did as much research on it as I could on the web/in person. Finally, I broke down and bought one. Here are my thoughts: It's lighter in weight and manufacture than the gas models. I would guess 6-7 lbs and as other purchasers indicated, it seems flimsier. Some assembly is needed. I had to put the chain, bar and guide on the small, self contained saw. Then I had to attach the pole to the saw, plug it together. There seems to be a spring inside the pole that I assume prevents one from overextending the pole. Extending it out as far as I dared, tip-to-tip length was 96". I'm a average man of 5'10" and had no problems holding or manuevering the pole saw around. It seem to cut very well on living limbs and slowed down a little on dried ones (it draws 7 amps). Three notes though on using the chain saw (I suppose on any chain saw): Keep the chain sharp, tight and well oiled. I'm not fully convinced that the saw's oiler works all that well. Wear some sort of eye protection since you will many times stand UNDER the cut and be showered by sawdust! Head protection is very much a plus also! For the polesaw, make sure you follow the technique of making undercuts when necessary to prevent the limb from grabbing or binding the saw. It's a real pain and probably real dangerous to climb up with a ladder to unravel the saw from the tree. I don't think it's recommended to climb a ladder or the tree to prune it since the pole would get in the way, but I was successul in doing pruning from the bed of my truck. Finally, I believe you can purchase the pole saw with a 10" bar if you need the extra 2" of cutting capacity. On the URL http://www.remingtonchainsaw.com, you can see a picture of the saw in use.
